This is from a recent proposal the PB went after. We did a series of animations and renderings that were used in the oral presentation. This particular view was from early on, but I like the camera angle. The water developed more detail ripples in the later versions. Randy gave me the wake displacement object from one of his projects (I guess one of his only projects). Crit away...

very cool scene.......I like the caustics bouncing on the underside of the deck....maybe should there be some bouncing off of the piers as well?
The environment is great!

| Nice work on the structural modeling and textures and a great composition. The lighting and/or lack of contrast makes the image look a little flat to me. Is the backgound image an HDR? I tend to swap out my HDR background with a really crisp photo for stills if the HDR isn't really crisp wherever the camera lands. The water looks good and maybe even too good. Consistent reflectivity and uniform undulations! I would not expect to see the white foam turbulence at the rear of the boat at such a low speed either. Something more like a small bulging wake?

| Thanks for the feedback! The background image is a HR pano vs. an HDRI image. I think it's washed out due to a small amount of fog that I had in the scene (for atmospheric perspective). Good point on the wake. Either I reduce it to a smooth "bump" or add motion blur and a water skier... Update coming soon...

Jerlin (11/10/2008) Could you please explain how you did it?Certainly. The material itself is VRay with a slight fresnel on the reflection and a simple bump map with mixes of noise and waves procedurals. For this one I also used an ortho image of the sight in the diffuse channel that I reduced to 60% Just enough to show some of the underwater sandbars and such from the higher angle cameras.
