I would like to present to them something of a more formal wish list of what we would like to see as the new Design Visualization workstation standard. If we have an overwhelming response to one particular brand, we may be able to justify breaking traditional brand constraints.
Worth a try, don't you think?

Nvidia's 128-core Graphics Card

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/peripherals/nvidia-ships-128core-graphics-cards-for-highend-film-editors-graphics-pros-apple-excited-241478.php

oooowwww.....shiny....

Affordable 3D Printer

http://www.modelin3d.com/overview.shtml

Compact, Fast, Affordable
Price: US $9,900
Weight: 100 pounds
Modeler size: 25 X 26 X 27 inches
Build size: 7 by 9 inches and nearly 8 inches tall
Warranty: 1 year limited warranty

Technical and maintenance assistance at all times

Render Farm OS

This subject is really Mark Kauffman's area of expertise, but I'll at least get the thread started. I've had a lot of questions from various people (PB and non PB) regarding render farm nodes (servers) and what OS to use. I think it's the description of "server" that throws people off. Really, the render node workstation only needs to have Windows XP (Pro) installed since it's only taking on one task at a time from the Render Manager. The only workstation that needs Server is whatever the frames are being rendered to since it requires more than ten outside accesses. Hopefully that clears up the OS issue a little bit.
