One thing that's always interested me is the difference between the image right our of the camera and what the final looks like after some retouching either in a darkroom or in Photoshop.  If you have some before and after, let's see them!

And be sure to describe what techniques you used!

Nice Pic Samus -- I find it disturbing, yet oddly compelling :-) Was the photo used for an ad or is it a fine art piece?

Anyone have a good before/after comparison? As simple as taking out redeye (personally I like to add redeye), or more complex like removing a person from a photo ... adding a supermodel in their place ... putting moose horns on a supermodel ... putting a moose in a poker game with a dog ...

Here's an example of what I'm thinking "retouching" is:

Re-touched:

The original image had some elements in the background that bothered me, so I replaced the gate with a stone wall, gave a little more definition to the column and tried to rework the blown-out face.

I guess this could be also classed as retouching. Shot a sequence with a tripod of my friend riding, then bought them into Photoshop as layers and using layer masks, painted out parts of the image so you could see the layer behind it. I think this is a really cool effect. The only bad thing is my camera can only do 3 frames per second, so you need some longer action to get a really impressive sequence.

Now that's fun!  Great idea.  What do the kids think of it?

my wife often does some retouching of photos when she wants to white out the background or to remove blemishes from skin, unfortunately i dont have any before and afters but its just general retouching.

When i do my work however i like to really go crazy with some of the effects and post images that are slightly surreal. Either that or i put some motion blur and radial blur are also winners in my books.

I'd LOVE to see how that was done. Do you have some links to a tutorial? Or maybe you'll post one in our tutorials section?
