There is a subtle MB on them, but the scale has minimized the effect.  I can certainly juice it up a little, but I don;t want it to ditract form the rest of the scene.  I guess with the "nasty weather" there should be more going on with the wind.

More motion blur & pulled the gulls back.

It sure come out a lot darker here...

I did change up the camera angle slightly to align the average of the top of the water with the bottom "third" of the image (going for balance of composition).  The closest wind generator aligns with the left vertical as well.  Now that you brought up the sky from the original, I have to agree.  Although it's not as dramatic, it certanly feels more  and sea-like weather.
