Hey all who read this.

My name is Stuart Shortland and im based in the Taunton PB office here in the UK, i have been using Autocad for 2D work and also some psuedo 3D, but i really want to get into 3D visualisation and modelling. I have spoken to a few people and they have pointed me in the right direction to get started.

Just wanted to come and say hi, and im sure i will be posting lots more in the future.

Welcome to pbviz.com!  We are glad you found us and have joined our little community.  You most likely already know your UK viz counter parts in Cardiff, but if not, I'll be happy to introduce you.  Our DV PAN is almost a reality so keep an eye on that news.  I'm looking forward to exchanging technology techniques with you!

Thanks for the warm welcome, just to give you an idea of where i am with 3D viz stuff, im currently reading through the AutoDesk 3D Studio Max Getting Started/Help manuals, but they total over 6000 pages :O, im currently on about page 150 so i have a long way to go. I will probably sit down on my computer at some point and just have a play with the software soon enough just to see what all the tools do.

I hope that i can learn alot from yourselves here and to further a career in 3D viz.

User Manual: Yikes!  My only advise to beginner Max users is to start work on a "project" of your choosing and don't let it sit for more than a week.  Ask lots of questions and try different modeling techniques for the same object.

I've had the pleasure of teaching Max Essential classes and am always a little dissappointed when the students aren't able to continue to use Max.  Most of them forget everything they learn.  Make it part of your RYP and set a number of hours per week that you would like to work in and explore Max.  If you want to make visualization a career goal, then there are some other avenues we can explore to get you the right training.

This site is a great starting point for posting questions.  The user base ranges from beginners to advanced Max users and all of us are experienced in Civil visualization.
