WOW.....that is so incredible what you did with that source image!!!  Can you please briefly walk through the steps, what you did and how you did it?

Hmmm -- going from that source image to that final image, I'd have to concur with 'Photoshop', but add 'Malt Liquor' ...

Sure thing!

But let's play with what's left.

Glen nailed down the vertical and horizontal mirrored structure of the image which covers the foreground. I have introduced a source image to move things along. What is going on in the background of this thing? How is the illusion of depth being achieved and what exactly do you think your looking at?

Everything in the final image came from the source image.

No more no less....

The left hand side of the image is what came straight out of Photomatix. The right hand side has also received the first round of Photoshop manipulation.

The image was mirrored horizontally and vertically, but Perspective/Skew was also added to the vertical mirroring to allow the illusion of perspective to continue.

All of the walls in between the support columns were removed and the entire original composition was scaled down and placed behind those cutouts as three separate layers. They too all had perspective added as well as some Tinting and Glow to make them appear to be further away. In essence, what you are seeing in the distance is exactly the same as the foreground before the walls were removed. The image is self-iterating.

The entire composition is shifted and scaled down with portions of the support beams copied and positioned to tie the "ceiling" with the "floor." The periphery of the image is vignetted and slightly blurred. Touches of Glow are everywhere. I really wanted to create a sense of a vast physical space and visual complexity.

The idea for the image came to me after a friend of mine sent me an image he had created as a result of a greeble tutorial. His image features the exterior of a space station. I thought it would be cool to come up with a concept for what part of the interior would look like.

I will see if I can get his image posted.

Awesome topic, Claudio!  Dissecting post images is always a great exercise.  This could be a great contest subject: creating a new image from one single photo.  Let me see if I can drum up some prizes...
