I was recently asked to do a 3d drawing of a prelim design that we are submitting to the Highways Agency.

Attached are 2 finished renders, the bridge took me about 13 hours to produce in autocad and also rendered using the built in renderer.

Im quite happy with this seen as though its my first real 3d work. I tried to import into 3ds but the arches were not smooth enough and i didnt have the alocated hours in the job to play around.

Any comments are welcome.

Great work!  Arches are never as easy as they appear.  Nice and tight geometry.  Did you try importing the DWG directly into Max?  There are some smooting settings in the import dialog that mey help.  Maybe when you find yourself twiddling your thumbs...

thanks for the comments guy, really appreciate it.

Yeah i did try and import it directly into 3ds and was blown away by all the options, so i gave up.

I will have a play with this in my own time, mainly because i dont have 3ds on my work computer with licenses being soo expensive and my cost centre not being able to justify the spend. Im hoping that if we do with the job, that i get some more time to improve the drawing and even put in the background.

That looks great! Especially for being rendered in CAD
Claudio is right, this would be a fantastic addition to a portfolio. If you're planning on making 3D a part of your resume, getting accustomed to how to get stuff into MAX and rendered with some sort of GI is essential to showing off your work. (And is also of great benefit to your clients)
