Colors: Nothing wrong with brilliant colors.  Maybe stick with one color theme (i.e. split complimentary, warm or cool trio, etc.)

Vines: just use GI to avoid harsh shadows?

Ok. I will try it out. Gotta wait another 4 to 5 days though for an update. Slow renders. :\

Going to upload some more of the kitchen revamp too. If it ever renders.

Ok. New renders of my kitchen scene are up. You can find them here:

http://www.digitalputty.net/archviz/kitchen/kitchen.html

I am having problems with lighting. Using Mental Ray.
Right now I just have flat colors. No real textures yet. :\ Every texture I add ads another 10 minutes on to my render time. Ick.

Here is a new render of an uber old project. Since I wanted to focus more on lighting and materials I used an old model of a kitchen/living room I did almost 4 years ago. EE!

3DSM 2010 & Mental Ray.
No post touch ups ... yet.

I want to get this kind of look with the lighting.

Getting much closer to your goal image.  Just at first glance, the images seems to loose the planes of the walls.  I could be direction of light or too many bounces...

Great progress!

Nice progress. I like the white and orange motif. reminds me a lot of Mirror's Edge:

My main critique is the very dark woods. They really get very lost. they need some surface reflection or a lighter material/diffuse/albedo to stand out more.

You may also want to have those windows on the right blast in some intense direct or semi-direct lighting to help define the shape of the room more most of the light seems to be trying to squeeze in from that tiny over-sink window.

Thanks for the comments. I like the orange, white and brown (with a touch of blue) color scheme as well. Light, airy, and sophisticated but fun.

Here are my most recent renders -which are still about a week old. Not getting to work on this as much as I would like. I obviously have a TON more to model. And the lighting is about 90% of what I want.

Right now, I have a MR Sun System in there ... with the sun at almost noon (directly above the center of my scene). I REALLY want the sun light pattern on the floor. But, when I do that, my light portals cause noise on the floor where the shadow of the wall/window is cast. As the shadow gets softer, the noisier it is. I will post a render of that later on...

Not sure why but, my chrome which is an Arch and design material is really jagged and flat. Any ideas?

The 'painting' of the clouds is yes, covering part of the door. Right now, I don't care.

The wine glasses need caustics. And are looking really flat. Suggestions on that, if possible, would be AWESOME!
