| WIP of a Lotus Exige as a personal project in my own time to practice with 3ds Max (my skills/qualifications are with Maya, but my work with PB requires 3ds Max).

| Looking great! Just curious if you'll be using MR or V-Ray on the renderings... I've been pushing MR at home (mostly since I don't have a version of V-RAy for 2010 yet). The Pro Materials are pretty slick! Hope you're having fun with this too. Ironically, there's a Lotus dealership not far from our house, so I'm always seeing these colorful little "rockets" zipping down the street. Looks like fun!

I chose this car because it has lots of interesting things going on like on the hood, side, back, etc and just looks cool anyway. Lotus dealership near your house!? I think you would probably be the best person to ask for feedback as I work on this then! Though I am changing small parts to have at least some artistic input like the spoiler, dual exhaust, wheels, etc.I am using MR in Maya for renders of my animated CG characters against live action footage in the Megaman film for a director in New York at the moment, but I want to render this car using V-Ray because that's what we use at work so I need to learn more about that. Just watched the V-Ray real-time render in action at SIGGRAPH 09 where it uses CUDA to render on the GPU - what takes 2 minutes on the CPU takes only a couple of seconds on the GPU so that will be great to try out one day too. I am using Max 2009 just because we haven't migrated to 2010 at work yet either. Tony (Kaihea) showed me some of the Graphite tools in Max 2010 which look pretty good, though some of them I have already been using in Maya a long time ago anyway

Thanks for your feedback Larissa. I agree that my 3D model is not as sharp as that particular Lotus model in your photo. There are actually many, many different types of Lotus designs with lots of subtle differences like this. My goal is not to replicate an exact particular Lotus model, but instead to look at all models and just use those parts that I like best. I am basing my car mostly on the 2010 model which doesn’t have the sharp lines like your reference photo does. However, that Lotus in your photo looks quite good too. I am currently working on the texturing and lighting (with VRay) which is making it look a lot better (of course). I will also animate it and post my progress here too. I appreciate your suggestions and even though I probably won't make a change this time, I very much welcome any future opinions/thoughts you may have so please keep em coming!

Awesome model. I've never been too good at car modeling. My only suggestion is to model in the body panels and other details as mapping shapes this complex to produce perfect lines and seams is near impossible. i know it requires you to rethink your polygon loops, but it's generally worth it.

Thanks Tom I was avoiding the body panel edges but I think you are right in that I should actually put them in - gives a bit more realistic detail and people with a good eye like yourself notice these type of things missing. However, I'll just add them where I can that fits with the current edge loops like you mentioned.Off topic but, Mitch mentioned that you would like me to take a look at some of your programming stuff, considering I have been a programmer for the past 5+ years. I am more than happy to - we both seem to have a keen interest in the technical aspects of graphics so I think it would be great to collaborate more if we can.

Absolutely! We're working on getting a cross charge system put up for just such a thing. But, as ussual it's insanely complicated and far too complex for my puny brain to comprehend

| Texturing and lighting using V-Ray. First time I have used V-Ray so this project was a great learning experience and I'm sure there are many more things I can improve upon. Next I plan to do some animation.
