Very appropriate!  You'll have to walk us through the ground snow creation sometime (as long as it's not a trade secret).

I like how you use sillouetes in the windows. The snowman is a nice touch too. Great work!

Hey there Aaron!

Very nice snow. And like Glen said - I like the addition of the snow man and the silhouettes in the windows.

The snow on the roof however, kind of bothers me a bit .... it seems to be accumulating on certain regions. I would think that snow on a roof would accumulate pretty evenly (except for the areas closest to vertical areas - walls). ??

Excellent!!

Thanks for the comments!

Glen: I will create a quick guide to the snow development and post it on the forum.

Larissa: Thanks for the reference pictures, I agree that the snow would accumulate evenly. This illustration takes place after a few warm days just as the snow started to fall again. (I choose this specifically so that I didn’t have to have everything covered with snow. My little quad core, 3 gig, 512 GPU can’t handle to much so I have to be tricky with geometry and materials.) But you are correct it is not accurate for recent snowfall. Here is an example I used:

Thank you again for your comments and feel free to leave more. It’s nice to have inquiring eyes looking over my work again.

I noticed that I forgot to add smoke coming out of the chimney. Seems like it would be a bit chilly in there.

Nice job!  I dig the lights around the roofline.  Chimney smoke sure would set this thing off!

One thing that jumped out at me was the snow & shadow color vs the sky in the first image.  Maybe I'm totally off here but wouldn't a grey overcast sky take a lot of the blue color away?  That blue hue comes from above - but doesn't the sky (in all it's blue glory) need to be visible to have that effect?  And the moon shouldn't be casting such bright light if the clouds are thick enought to drop snow.

Are those lens flares in the sky?

Good eye A.N.Dall.

Prior to post production the sky was clear with stars. I've made some quick adjustments to the image (e.g. smoke and slightly desaturated snow). Please review and comment as needed.

Thanks again for the comments. I'll be posting a quick guide to how I created the snow so have a look.

Very cool. It's always great to do something other than 1pm in April constantly

I really like the lighting and the "cold" feeling of the image, but the sky just doesn't match. it seems like you have a very bright, blue-white moon shining through the clouds, but your clouds look flat and purple/green. I think having a bit of gradient to the sky hinting at the direction of the moon would help add interest and tie the sky to the foreground.

I do think the sky looks right for some snowy circumstances (There's often an orange or pink sky after a snow), but not this one so much because of the strong, blue lighting.

Over the holiday season I revisited the illustration and used some of your comments to enhance the illustration. C&C welcome. Thanks again for all the input.

Looking really good!  Just a question (not necessarily a crit): Are those 3-4 larger circles in the sky lens flares?
